NHL Boston Bruins vs Philadelphia Flyers
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Boston Bruins, NHL, Wells Fargo Center

The Bruins and Flyers have had no trouble potting goals in the early going of the season. Two of the best offensive teams in the league, their last two meetings featured no shortage of goal scoring. Both teams enter Wednesday’s contest on respective winning streaks as they battle to maintain ground in the East Division. Will it be top dog Philly coming out on top, or will the Bruins snap the Flyers’ winning streak.

Two teams on winning streaks go head-to-head.

The Boston Bruins have won 5 of their last 6, while the Flyers have been rolling all season. Entering their Wednesday night contest, Philadelphia are on a 4-game winning streak and have been scoring at will.

Only twice this season have the Flyers been held to 1 goal. The Flyers have scored 3-or-more-goals on more occasions than being limited to 1 or 0 goals. Point blank, this Flyers team can rip the puck.

The Flyers have scored 35 goals through 10 games and have the second-highest goals per game in the East Division.

On top of that, Philly hasn’t been the most defensive team in the NHL. Allowing 31 goals against so far, the Flyers are allowing their fair share of goals too.

I am sure you know where my BetPicks prediction is going with this contest.

Boston is always a popular selection for NHL game odds, but I think they are overpowered in this match up. With that being said, David Pastrnak is back in the lineup, but the Flyers have been deadly this season.

One of the biggest reasons the Bruins have found more success is their defense. The Bruins have allowed 20 goals through 9 games and are one of the top defensive squads in the league.

Earlier this season, the Flyers and Bruins met in two-high-scoring games, totaling 9 goals and 7 goals respectively.

When two high-powered offenses duel, it’s almost like defensive talent doesn’t matter. Both teams find a way to score and that has held true between these teams.

One thing that sticks out to me is that the Flyers struggled to score against Boston this season. Despite being one of the best offensive teams in the league, Philly has not been able to crack the code against the Bruins. Granted, they managed 4 goals in a loss, but the Flyers were held to 1 goal later in the week against Boston.

This has me thinking that we will once again see the over, but I am also looking at the Boston puck line.

It’s rare but I want to double down on this game. I think we see the total go over 5.5 (888Sport) and Boston covers on the puck line +1.

If I had to choose one to wager, I’d go with over total goals but I don’t think Boston +1 is a weak wager by any means.
